Josep Maria Bartomeu has “no doubt” Lionel Messi will stay at Barcelona

    Josep Maria Bartomeu remains positive that Lionel Messi will see out his career at Barcelona, regardless of recent reports that the super star forward is aiming to leave.

    Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has repeated that he has “no doubt” Lionel Messi will extend his contract at Camp Nou.

    The Argentina international’s future has been called into question in recent months in the middle of issues over the instructions the club are heading.

    Messi’s existing deal ends at completion of the next season and, according to reports in Spain, he does not plan to agree fresh terms at this point.

    Nevertheless, Bartomeu remains positive that the six-time Ballon d’Or winner – who has invested his whole career in Catalonia – will still be a Barcelona player beyond next year.

    “Messi has said many times that he wants to retire here and I have no doubt he will renew,” he informed Mundo Deportivo.

    Inter Milan have actually been tipped to make an adventurous move for Messi however, speaking on Sunday, Antonio Conte identified the rumours “fantasy football”.
